First, the stills.
And then the video!
I had the great pleasure of shooting with Taos Band “Out Of Nowhere” on Saturday night. Out of Nowhere is a high-energy dance band of covers and originals, with influences that span swing, jazz, soul, funk, R&B, Latin, and blues. The line up is Elaine Nelson, saxophones and keyboard; Barnaby Hazen, electric guitar; Suzanne Birrell, electric bass and backup vocals; Ray Vollmer, drums; and Beth Searcey, lead vocals. Together 3 1/2 years, the band’s goal has always been sculpting a show to make people feel good and move. As it happens, most audiences to date have found it impossible to remain seated through any given set.
Elaine provides the band with the horn-based sounds, playing both alto and soprano sax, in addition to keyboards and accordion. Her performances at wide-reaching venues on the local scene have brought her well-deserved attention and praise.
Barnaby brings a passion for straight ahead jazz and swing to the mix in his guitar and attitude toward improvisation. He also provided the group with originals crafted to the context of Out of Nowhere’s lineup.
Ray, the hard-driving backbone of the band, has been playing in bands in Taos for more years than many of us have lived here.
Suzanne has played for many years and is a full-time professional musician. She play most instruments including her old friends Oboe, Fred the Stand-Up Acoustic Bass, Guitar and Ukulele.
Beth has been providing sultry vocals for OON starting first as a guest for the band’s first few shows. Now the majority of OON’s material is focused on providing a showcase for her exceptional talent.
